A peaceful woman with long brown hair stands outdoors, eyes closed, gently breathing in the fresh air among golden autumn leaves. Soft sunlight filters through the trees, creating a serene and grounding atmosphere. Overlaid text reads: "Your body is not the source of your anxiety — it's the sanctuary that can soothe it. Listen, and it will guide you back to peace." – Susette Jarvis. The website link www.susette-holistichealing.com appears at the bottom.
Your body holds the key to calm. When anxiety rises, come back to your breath, your senses, and your stillness. This is where peace begins.

In today’s fast-paced world, many of us live in our heads—constantly thinking, worrying, planning, and replaying scenarios. When anxiety creeps in, it often disconnects us from the very thing that can bring us peace: our body.

But here's the truth—your body is not your enemy. It's your ally. It holds deep wisdom, subtle cues, and the grounding presence of the now. When we reconnect with our body, we create a space where anxiety begins to soften and peace can enter.

What Is Grounding?

Grounding is the practice of bringing your awareness back to the present moment by connecting with your body and the Earth. When anxiety takes hold, we tend to dissociate—our thoughts race to the future, and our energy lifts up into the mind, leaving us feeling scattered and unsteady.

Grounding techniques help to anchor you in the here and now, calming the nervous system and offering a sense of safety and stability. It's a beautiful reminder that you are held, supported, and safe.

Simple grounding techniques include:

  • Walking barefoot on grass or sand

  • Placing your hand on your heart or belly and breathing deeply

  • Holding a grounding crystal like hematite or smoky quartz

  • Engaging your senses: noticing five things you can see, four you can touch, three you can hear, two you can smell, and one you can taste (the 5-4-3-2-1 method)

What Does It Mean to Align with Your Body?

When we speak of alignment, we often think of posture or energy—but emotional and energetic alignment is about bringing your mind, body, and spirit back into harmony.

When you are aligned, your energy flows more freely. You feel less tension, more clarity, and greater resilience against anxiety and stress.

Alignment isn’t something to force—it’s something to allow. It begins with slowing down, becoming present, and asking yourself gently,

“What do I need right now?”

Sometimes it's rest. Sometimes it’s movement, nourishment, or stillness. Alignment is the art of attuning to your truth, without judgement or expectation.

Listening to Your Body's Wisdom

Your body is constantly communicating with you—through sensations, breath, gut feelings, tension, and even pain. Unfortunately, we’re often taught to override these signals: to push through, numb out, or ignore them entirely.

But your body is a messenger, and anxiety is often a signal that something is out of balance—physically, emotionally, or energetically.

Listening to your body may look like:

  • Noticing where you hold tension when you're anxious

  • Recognising when you need rest, hydration, or nourishment

  • Acknowledging butterflies in your stomach before a difficult conversation

  • Responding with love instead of frustration when your body feels unwell

The more you listen, the more you build trust with yourself. And with trust comes safety—and with safety comes healing.

The Connection Between the Body and Anxiety

When you're anxious, your brain activates the fight-or-flight response. This floods your body with adrenaline and cortisol, creating symptoms like rapid heartbeat, shallow breathing, muscle tension, and restlessness.

By grounding and aligning with your body, you activate the parasympathetic nervous system—the part responsible for rest, healing, and calm.

Your breath deepens. Your heart slows. Your muscles soften. Your thoughts quieten.

And most importantly—you return home to yourself.

A Gentle Invitation

If you’ve been feeling anxious or overwhelmed, I invite you to take one small step today:

🌿 Place your hand on your heart.🌿 Close your eyes.🌿 Take a slow, deep breath in… and a longer breath out.🌿 Whisper to yourself: “I am here. I am safe. I am listening.”

Come back to your body. Come back to you. This is where healing begins.

I invite you to listen to
